Name:Jesse, See Yoon, and Jocelin MODEL PRESENTATION OUTLINE NOTES As you follow my presentation, take notes on what I do for each of the criterion.I am asking you to evaluate me on the following. Øcontent Øactivities Øraising awareness and interest Part One:Background (opening based on persuasive paragraph and reflection question about the issues in general)
Why is this issue a global one? What is the main problem?
This is a global issue because this issue affects everyone, not just one type of people. The main problem is that prisoners are being physically abused in jail. So we think that everyone should have some basic human rights to prevent this from happening
How is this issue affecting the world?
This issue is affecting the world by making citizens scared of torture on a daily basis. Torturing prisoners is also growing all over the world making this a bigger issue.
What is being done to stop, prevent or fix this issue?
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Signed by the United States in 1882) and the Geneva Convention (Signed by the United States in 1948) both state that people have certain basic rights which shouldn’t change even if they are in jail. Part Two:Case Study (the specific area chosen to focus on)
What background information was shared on a specific area?
The background information "definition of human rights" was shared on a this specific area (The torture of prisoners by the US Government). The other background information, which is how human rights are being affected in the world, is somewhat related to the specific topic but I think definition of human rights is more "closer." People's attitudes or actions towards themselves depend on the definition of human rightsl.
Interactive Activity (this should be related to your case study and involve audiences members in order to educate them more on your topic):What did I do?
I wrote down three main human rights, that allowed me to see if the torture of the prisoners by the US government is fair. I wrote down: 1.Everyone is equal. 2. No one has rights to judge anyone. 3. No one has rights to ignore anyone's ideas. I came up with a conclusion that what the US Government is doing is "unfair." Part Three:Action Plan:
What do I propose to do?
To raise awareness in the school community and inform people about how writing letters to the State representatives and organisations such as the Amnesty International.
The parts of my plan:
The purpose- Why am I doing this action?
More than 100 detainees have died in U.S. custody since 2002 and this shouldn't have happened. The United States is a country founded on the principles of human rights and the declaration is now turning against the principles and beliefs on which it was created. This also concern other people because if there are no basic human rights, people will always live in fear knowing that their government could abuse them.
The message- Why should people be informed about this issue?
As more people know about this action taking place, it is more likely that the communities would speak up. If thso action is supported by communities around the world, people can work together to accomplish this goal.
A short-term plan for achieving my goal (remember is should be kept simple and not too ambitious- again make sure it CAN actually be done). What do I propose to do?
To learn more about the issue and to raise awareness of the torture of US prisoners in pudong
A long-term plan for achieving my goal. What is my long-term plan?
To continue to fight for the rights of the prisoners through highschool, college and as an adult
Reference to information on wiki and other resources: What references do I make?
Part Four:Conclusion- (Make sure to leave them thinking and inspired to do something themselves!).What do I do to conclude my presentation? nn
The presentation ended with a quote to leave the audience thinking and inspire them.
